The El Romero PV plant, built by Chilean multinational Acciona in Chile, is fully operational. El Romero is located in Chile's Atacama desert, starting construction in October 2015, an investment of about 343 million US dollars.
Bachelet stressed: "This is the largest PV power plant in Latin America with 776,000 solar panels and an annual production capacity of 500 GWh. It provides clean energy for the SIC for 245,000 Chilean households At the same time, it will reduce the emission of 485,000 tons of carbon dioxide. "She also said that energy is the core industry in today's social development and has promoted social progress. "Energy is no longer an abstract, far-reaching technological issue, and energy is very much associated with homes, schools and businesses, so we are starting to focus on how energy is generated, stored and delivered."
José Manuel Entrecanales, president of Acciona, said: "The full utilization of the PV power station is a great milestone for renewable energy and deserves our celebration."
In addition, Acciona is also the developer of Punta Palmeras, the first wind farm in Chile, and Endele Cannes, together with President Bachelet, announced a decade ago that Punta Palmeras will begin construction. At the same time, Acciona is also a pioneer in the low-carbon economy and was awarded the European Environmental Sustainability Contribution Award by the European Commission (Comisión Europea).
